Abutment
An implant consists of two main components.
What is an Implant Abutment?
First, the screwed tooth placed in the jawbone mimics the tooth root. The abutment screwed into the implant is the second part. Abutments form the superstructure of the implant, which we place the veneered teeth on by giving the shape of the worn tooth.
The connection parts used for dental implants are known as abutments. Custom abutments, standard abutments and multiabutments have different features.
Common Abutment Types
Standard Abutment
Standard abutments, which are widely used in implant treatments, are usually available in ready stock.
They are produced in various sizes according to the implant diameters and are mass-produced.
They are generally cheaper and faster to access.
However, since each patient has different anatomical features, standard abutments may sometimes not fit the patient's oral structure exactly, which can limit aesthetic results.
Custom Abutment
Custom abutment is specially designed according to the patient's mouth structure and the position of the implant.
Abutments have features that can largely eliminate the aesthetic concerns of patients. Thanks to abutments that can also be designed specifically for the person, you will have a long-lasting and functionally problem-free treatment process.
Multiabutment
Multi abutment is an advantageous abutment type that combines the additional advantages of custom and standard abutments in one place.
It is a product that has a wide use as a multiabutment in order to catch all kinds of angles in inclined and missing teeth and implants.
It is a cheaper product than other treatment methods in order to improve this situation in patients with aesthetic concerns.
The dentist takes into account your needs and demands within the scope of the treatment and plans the custom or standard abutment treatment option accordingly. While custom abutments and multiabutments are used for special needs, standard abutments are generally cheaper.
Types of Implant Abutments According to the Material They Are Made Of
Abutments are generally made of zirconium and titanium materials. Here we will show the differences between the two implant abutments.
Titanium Abutments
Titanium abutments are very popular and compatible with most implant systems.
The body tolerates titanium well and supports osseointegration because titanium is a biocompatible material.
The biocompatibility of titanium allows it to bond and adapt better to the jawbone.
Titanium is cheaper than metal abutments.
Zirconium Abutments
The reason for choosing zirconium is related to its compatibility with tooth colors and its ability to provide a more aesthetic appearance.
It fits the gums better than metal abutments and emphasizes naturalness.
The risk of allergy is quite low in zirconium.
It has a more fragile structure compared to other metals and titanium. Care should be taken in situations such as strain and pressure.
The dentist can shape both abutments according to your needs and demands.
